MEN OF FIRE

MEN OF FIRE TRILOGY

To some they are daredevils, defiant of the rules other firemen must follow, to others they are brave, heroes who save the lives no others dare. These are the stories of three such men—Tom, Tony and Matt—the elite of the elite—Smokejumpers.

Thomas “Wolf” MacKenzie — High risk doesn’t worry this sexy smokejumper.  He lives on the edge.  A guilt-ridden past pushes him to be brazen and bold, but a mistake could cost him his life.

Anthony “Moondoggie” Calhoun — A charming bad boy who can captivate and manipulate.  Women love his wild nature.  Behind those bedroom eyes lie burning secrets and a valiant sole.

Matthew “Flyboy” Boone — This handsome pilot is fearless.  His job takes him to hot spots.  The hotter the better.  Beneath his charismatic smile beats a reckless heart.  He tends to be hard-headed, bossy and irresistible.

A Day in the Life.....

A DAY IN THE LIFE....

It was a normal day in the life of this four-year-old girl.  It was overcast but she didn't mind because there was a warm breeze and mommy said she could play on the front porch as long as she didn't go down the stairs.

The young girl played happily singing her own special song, content to carry on elaborate conversations with her dolly.  She decided that it wasn't enough to just sing, her and dolly wanted to dance.  So, she got up and began to twirl and dance around.

In a split second, her joyful play became confusing, and frightening for the large picture window fell out and crashed over her tiny head.  The glass fell broken all around her.  The little girl not understanding how her four-year-old world could have taken such a drastic turn, started screaming, and screaming, and screaming.

Luckily, she was not harmed in any way.  Her mommy came running out to see what had happened, snatched her out of the way of the broken glass, carried her into the house, and checked to make sure she was not injured.  Then she hugged her, hugged her, hugged her.

Little girls love their mommies!!!!!!!

(This is an actual story from the life of Sloan McBride.)

TASTY TREATS

TASTY TREATS

I love the smell of pumpkins pies cooking, and cookies baking.  Unfortunately, I don't bake that much anymore.  I'm always trying to lose weight, eat healthy, get the exercise in.  The family is like Meh! Whatever!  No one helps cook, or looks forward to baking cookies, but you bet they are there ready to eat them when they come out of the oven.  I don't know what it is.  I have always tried to get them involved with cooking and baking, but neither child is ever interested.  They are both older now, in college, so I'm going to bake what I want to bake and enjoy the smells and the tastes.  Though I do not have any super secret, mystical, magical recipes.  These are a few that I like.  Happy Autumn!

If you're having a Halloween party either for kids or adults, these are fun:

Velveeta Salsa Dip

This dip can be used with tortilla chips or veggies.

1 pound (16 ounces) VELVEETA cheese
1 cup TACO BELL Thick-n-Chunky Salsa

Microwave Velveeta cheese and salsa in 1 1/2 quart microwavable bowl on High for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted, stirring after 3 minutes.

As a variation, you can add beanless chili.

For your party, put the mixture in a small cauldron after it's done!

VELVEETA Chili Dip recipe

Ghosts in the Graveyard

1 package (16 ounces) OREO cooks
3 1/2 cups cold milk
2 packages (4-serving size each) JELL-O Chocolate Flavor Instant Pudding & Pie Filling
1 tub (12 ounces) COOL WHIP Whipped topping, thawed

Crush cookies in zipper-style plastic bag with rolling pin or in food processor.
Pour cold milk into large bowl. Add pudding mixes. Beat with wire whisk 2 minutes.
Gently stir in 3 cups of the whipped topping and 1/2 of the crushed cookies.  Spoon into 13x9-inch dish. Sprinkle with remaining crushed cookies.
Refrigerate 1 hour or until ready to serve.

For a variation you can make Boo Cups.  (Me and my husband made these for a Girl Scout event once....Oy!)

Layer pudding mixture, remaining crushed cookies and candy corn or tiny jelly beans in 12 to 16 glasses or clear plastic cups. Decorate with additional candies, decorated cookies and whipped topping, as desired.

HALLOWEEN - FACT OR FICTION

HALLOWEEN - FACT OR FICTION

I love this time of year.  I've tried numerous times to get the communities I live in to have a block party.  We would serve homemade treats, and chili, and hot chocolate.  The adults would dress up and do the serving.  While the kids in the neighborhood were always excited about the concept, I could never find enough adults to be be willing.  It's too bad, really.  I guess I just live in the wrong place.

I think getting the whole neighborhood, or at least your block involved would be an awesome experience......for all. I often thought about getting a cauldron and making a chili in it.  That would be soooo cool!  We could make bat wing and pumpkin cookies as Kara from my book "Highland Stone" often did with her grandmother.  We could have lots of carved jack-o-lanterns on the stoops, their flickering faces guiding the guisers (trick-or-treaters) on their way.  A couple of thousand years ago, the Celts believed that the jack-o-lantern was a "soul" that was denied entry into both Heaven and Hell.  On All Hallow's Eve, the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead were thin, and blurred.  The ghosts of those long dead would return to cause mischief and help the Druids see the future.

There are variations of stories down through the ages about Halloween.  No matter how you celebrate this spooky day, it is generally a time for friends, family, and strangers to get together and scare the bejeezus out of each other as evidenced by Fright Nights at theme parks, haunted houses, and horror films.

Halloween is here.  It's time to get your freak on!!!!!

Have fun and Stay Safe!!!!

IF I HAD ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD....

IF I HAD ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD......

I'd pay at least $1 million dollars to each and every animal rescue place, each and every animal sanctuary in the world.  Not just cute puppies, dogs, cats, and kittens, but ALL animals, wildlife.  No matter.

How can you ignore any of these magnificent creatures?  They are living, breathing, loving hearts.

They are intelligent and playful, and....

Wonderous!

I wish I could save them all.
